SAAB J 35F1 Draken, F10 Ängelholm (Skånska Flygflottiljen), Swedish Air Force, 1970s
A Swedish Vallhund fighter pilot in front of his mount, a SAAB J 35F1 Draken
The J 35F 'Filip' was the definitive fighter variant of the successful SAAB Draken family with first flight of a prototype, a modified J 35A 'Adam', on 22 December 1961 and service introduction in 1965. Development was conducted with three modified Adams, one of which was brought up to an approximation of full Filip production specification.
The Filip was basically similar to late-production J 35D 'David', powered by the very same Volvo Flygmotor RM 6C (Licensed Rolls-Royce Avon 300) and Ebk 67 Afterburner. The major improvement from David was fitting of SAAB S37B Collision-Course Fire Control System with Ericsson PS-011/A Radar and Type 7B Weapon Sight, these improvements, combined with STRIL 60 Ground Control Network enable the Filip to carries, fires, and guides RB 27 (AIM-26) and RB 28 (AIM-4) Falcons in addition to RB 24 (AIM-9) Sidewinder. These new avionics systems, however, replaced the port side 30 mm M-55 ADEN cannon, leaving the Filip with only one cannon on starboard wing leading edge
Later production J 35Fs (Starting from no. 35501 airframe) were fitted with a Hughes AN/AAR-4 (S-71N) Infra Red Search and Track, built under license by Ericsson. Machines with the IRST were designated "Filip Tvaa" or "J 35F2", with the early machines retroactively designated "Filip Ett" or "J 35F1". The Hawé mods I & II were also carried out on the PS-011 radar sets in the early 80's to improve ressistance to ECM.
Flygflottilj 10 aircraft tails usually painted with yellow/red checkerboard pattern during the 1970s, one unique exception is tail number 66, which had all red tailplane and ghost logo painted in the middle, as depicted on the drawing.
Mostly 2B classic on 21x12 cm sketchbook paper, the canopy is slightly to small than the real thing to my taste, i completely forgot that Drakens actually were small planes compared to other comparable fighters like CF-105 or F-102, though they are still quite large for a Vallhund..

Insta-save and insta-fave. Hit full view and said, ohhh yah. Beauty job.
Far, far back in time, had half an air force of models dangling from the
bedroom ceiling. Including a Draken. Very few other aircraft have, shall
I say, the esprit of that jet.
Some planes just wanna fly? The Draken's definitely one of 'em.

Drakens are awesome looking planes. And what I heard of them, quite noisy too. :D
Sweden indeed has made and still makes great things. Such as Draken. :) The more I study into depth of things done then more I love those. Not only planes nor tanks but other things too such as cars and machines. :)
