Midwest, but I learned my English from the Discovery Channel. (No seriously. Parents are well-educated immigrants. No English at home.) I figured the term applied to any animal that could be mistaken for feline, with a long body, since that's what it seems to imply. I have no idea what people call them around here, because there aren't any.
