I may have been an engine cleaner on the Kent & East Sussex Railway over the last two years but it's only recently I have started to utilize my experience at the South Devon Railway. Having said that, I spent much of my time (on the day this photo was taken) cleaning 'Ashley', the name of this engine.
'Ashley' is an 0-4-0ST built by Peckett's of Bristol in 1942. The engine spent much of its working life at Exeter Gasworks and came to the South Devon Railway in 1970, the year after the SDR (known then as the Dart Valley Railway) reopened.

I am pleased and a bit excited that you've moved up a notch as an Engine Wiper. I know how it feels to work one's way up from sweeping the shop floors and cleaning the "Common" areas, to being trusted enough to take care of some of the equipment. Just keep getting better at your position, and don't be afraid to ask questions.
