She sighed, tugging on her chains trapping her to the ground. Before her, a man grew a sinister smile.
“You've done great terrors and caused great pain to everyone around you. Not to mention, you've been doing my bidding for quite some time.”
She dropped her head.
“You're quiet. Have nothing to say? Or have you just run out of excuses?”
She looked up, eying him with powerful eyes. “Everything I learned was from you. There's no point.”
He stiffled a laugh. “You certainly didn't get your intelligence from me. Give yourself a little credit.”
She sighed.
“Most people in your position would cry, would beg for mercy, would beg for redemption—a second chance. You're aware of your actions though. You know better.”
“I'd be wasting my breath, which is exactly what you're doing.”
The man laughed. “Oh, such a sharp tongue, even in front of the devil himself, you still hold strong.”
She turned away, staring at the eternal flames. “You wouldn't kill me.”
“Oh, no, I would, but that would be too simple. Death is instant gratification. Not enough suffering for what you've done.”
Her eyes softened, staring at the single tentacle slithering out of the flame. “Exactly. So, what've you got planned for me?”
“Why exactly would I tell you? I'm not a villain in a movie.”
“No, but there's nothing I could do to stop it. You might enjoy the reaction you get before you put your plan in action.”
He knelt down to her, gently shifting her chin to look into his white eyes. “As I said, you didn't get your intelligence from me. I wasn't sure you would give a reaction, given how stoic you've been even since you were executed and sent down here. It's not everyday you get an audience with the ruler of Hell.”
Her eyes reflected disinterest. “How lucky am I?” Her words dripped with sarcasm, the first emotion she'd put into her words. It only produced a grin from her captor.
“I suppose I'm giving you too much of my time though. For your punishment, you will be sent back to Earth. You will begin a new life.”
She grinned darkly. “Let me guess, you're going to try and make my new life a living hell?”
“That's where the name comes from. But this will be a little different. You life and mentality will be nothing you've ever faced before, and trust me, I have been watching you ever since you tried to kill your father.” He grinned, stroking his beard. “Not only will your mind be unstable and hazardous to others, you will be given a kinder heart, one that becomes riddled with guilt to drive your own madness. In addition to that, you will be reborn a male, thrown into a world and hate yourself from day one, always feeling like there's something wrong with you. You will always feel different, and your insecurity and weakness will cause you to breakdown. You'll find yourself lonely, and you'll have no one to blame but yourself.”
She dropped her head.
He picked her chin back up. “You forget, I can hear your thoughts. You claim you don't believe that would be trouble compared to what you've done. I promise you, I've been working on your punishment for the past twenty years, and I believe this will be perfect. What better person to destroy you than yourself? Just imagine a life so lonely, so depressing that you'll forget you're alive. But if you try to kill yourself, I'll just send you right back out there. You'll be stuck living one miserable life after another for all eternity.” He lightly tapped her cheek. “But hey, you're smart. Maybe you'll think of something. This is only a test after all, to see if I can slowly spread hell on Earth. Wouldn't want you to give up on your life so easily, would I?”
She looked down again, tracing her chains with her eyes.
He stood up. “Very well. Enjoy your next life. May we meet again in your next life.”
“...ri? Kiri, are you there?”
She snapped out of it, staring at her computer screen. It looked like she'd died to a skeleton.
Again, someone called out for her. “AY YO KIRI!”
She placed her headset back on. “Yes, dark mistress senpai?”
There was light laughter on the other side. “You stopped walking and died to a skeleton. You okay?”
“Um, yeah! Just...was out of it for a second.”
