On Jedarik's world there are quite a few other saurians, but their size is determined by their success in battle against other saurians. The more they win the larger they get while losing causes some size lose. Most really don't get much larger than a normal dinosaur would, but once they reach the point that they can crush even other saurians underfoot they tend to get ridiculously large.
This image shows Jedarik demonstrating just how easily he can crush his competitors now, along with a few other unlucky bugs that happened to be around.

That growth trigger has story potential. Presumably we could start with a insect sized saurian that wins though trickery and end with a giga macro who can defeat a whole planet of saurians over and over again with a single flex of a toe or even the vibration caused by a single heartbeat.
I did rather like how that trigger works.
