It's the resurfacing of Southwestern vernacular. I often catch myself speaking "Spanglish" (mostly swearing) here in Southern New Mexico.

I never know if Colorado is midwest/southwest/west or considered to just be "the frontier" which I've heard before. ;T

I've always considered the Four Corners states, Nevada, California, and Texas to be Southwestern

It's okay to say howdy, it's friendly and kinda quirky. Even here in Texas people occasionally giggle a little if you say, picked up saying it in college.
