FYI though, you shouldn't use loose substrates with beardies (or basically almost any lizard, really). They have a tendancy to end up ingesting it, which causes compaction, which in most cases, is deadly! I suggest paper towel, which is what I use with my lizards. Easier to clean, too!

While we were there they said they use it for this size till Bark goes in.

My store likes to recommend something called reptile carpet which is kinda like what it sounds like. I like to tell people to get two so you can just swap them out as they take a bit to dry. Perhaps the reason why the store you went to recommended it is because they might not feed in the cage.

A bowl? You mean a big bowl that you'll put crickets and your beardie in or a bowl for pellets? We've never had any luck getting our beardies to eat pellets.

I wouldn't trust a pet store! They basically look to sell you what is best for them. Bearded dragons shouldn't have particulate substrates at ANY size! Repticarpet is OKAY but you might have some trouble with claws getting caught on it! (Unshredded) newspaper or paper towel work best, and of course, nothing extra gets ingested! :D

Reading into it further, OP has said the store was LLLReptile- I heard they were bad but this is just really messed up to hear that they were reccomending such substrate with Beardies... I'll never be ordering supplies from them again!!

We went to a reptile store. They had over 100 there but this one stood out.

I suppose that would explain it. I can see why it stood out though, nice contrast and I've never seen one with orange on the mouth like that without being nearly completely orange.

She tries not to over feed him but he still can down 20+ crickets no problem and it's like.. wow, where do you put it all? He's gotten so much bigger than he was when she first got him too. They grow up so fast. ;w;

He/She eats like a pig!
The night we got him/her I gave them the dried baby meal worms so that they could not hurt him/her over night and BOOM cleared those up.
Ate 3 crickets today and it is only day 1 @.@

I also have some carrots in there right now since they need both bugs and greens. Not digging the carrots though it would seem haha.

I used the small side of a cheese grater. He just wants to kill things that have a soul ATM >.<

My friend rips up little lettuce pieces for him and he'll eat it. You could try that.

you can honestly just take the dimensions of your cage and get tile cut for pretty cheap at home depot/lowes and it makes for great cage flooring :3
