A BJD would cost you a lot. People who do basic face-ups on them, depending on artist and complexity can be $30-50 or more alone. My friend's one that looks like Trent Reznor went to an artist that charges $150 at the time, but she can do super realistic. Plus moving them around if it's a full paint will eventually chip, and need to be re-touched up or redone completely. If you're gentle with it maybe once every year or two if it's a full body, complex one.
Also the dolls themselves cost in the hundreds range, some as low as $125(cheap Chinese bobobie Sprite) up to $500-700 range for a naked, hairless, blank doll.
So it's basically the kind of thing you need the time, money and effort for to search for the exact type, size, and brand you want, the right eyes that will fit, etc.
