And here's where the backgrounds kind of lose their detail. There were some screens and such around and a few other things but it kind of overpowered the figures so I took them out. I really didn't want the backgrounds to take the focus from the atmosphere and the characters but ended up neglecting them too much in the long run.

In comics ALL THE TIME there's an establishing shot that's all detailed, and then during the scene the backgrounds practically disappear, so as not to distract from the important action (and not waste the artist's time re-drawing the same scenery over and over). This is totally acceptable and I think it works well.
