Ever since the heart condition came to light Vincent has been trying to adjust to his new life and the new rules that come along with it. Adjustments don't come easy all the time though, when when one mourns what they've lost they have some things to think about. Luckily for Vince he has some good friends.

“Hold on a second, Nigel-san,” Riou Hotaru said as he wandered over to a side workout room in the gym area. He and Nigel had both gotten together to spend a bit of time with one another as Riou had been busy lately with all of his training. After they’d met up at the PCA the two made their way through the gym in order to start their evening. As they walked by the work out area on the campus the Lucario had heard something and wanted to confirm what he thought it was. The Garde blinked as he heard it too and wandered after the Lucario.
“Could swear that sounds like Vincent,” Nigel Garkirl commented as the two came to door and peered inside and a moment later their eyes went large and their fears were confirmed. It was indeed their friend Vincent Tellamapolou who was working out; though to say only that would be a minor understatement as they saw his body covered in sweat while he beat on a heavy bag fiercely. The Poliwrath stood before the large boxing bag and pounded on it, his shirt lay on a nearby bench.
“V-Vincent-san?! What are you doing?!” Riou dashed quickly to the side of his friend and grabbed the ‘wrath’s arm, “You can’t be doing this!” The Lucario referred to the bad heart that Vince had the one that could give out if he overworked himself.
“Oh, for the love of...” Nigel wasted no time as he teleported to the other side of the Poli and grabbed his other arm, “Vincent!” Vince started to swing again before he found his arm suddenly grabbed and stopped by Riou. The Lucario was dragged a few steps forward before the larger ‘mon realized what was going on. Vince stopped and blinked down at the two.
“What?” He asked incredulously, the look on his face far more serious than either had ever seen before, “I’m just working out!”
“Yes, that's lovely and all but have you bloody forgotten about the ticker you're overworking?!” Nigel admonished him, his arms tightly wrapped around the ‘wrath’s to keep him from swinging again.
“Vincent-san, you're not supposed to work yourself like this!” Riou echoed the sentiment, “That's what put you in the hospital and almost got you killed in the first place!”
“What’s it even matter?” Vince asked as he grunted and flexed his muscles against their grips, his breath ragged as he stared at the heavy bag in front of him, “I was just off over here working out...not like I was interfering with anyone. Not like anyone needs me right now!”
“That's beside the point!” Riou stated again, the Lucario gritted his teeth and held on tightly, “If you kept this up, you might kill yourself!”
“Vincent, what in blazes has gotten into you?!” Nigel quickly asked, not sure what was going on.
“I'm just trying to work out here, guys!” Vincent shouted back at them as he stared ahead towards the heavy bag, “I'm just trying to do something! Anything that might actually be productive!”
“There's a difference between being productive and having a death wish!” Riou shouted back at him, “I'm not letting go until you stop!”
“And morals be damned, I WILL try Hypnotizing you if you continue on like this so just calm down and tell us what this is about!” Nigel warned him as he gritted his teeth and continued to cling on against the much larger ‘mon.
“What's it matter?” The Poli demanded as he started to struggle against them, “You guys don't have to worry about me...no one needs to worry about me!”
“No, we worry about you all the time!” the Lucario tried to remind him. Riou was concerned as Vincent wasn’t making much sense, “Tamara worries about you, Karon-san worries about you, I worry about you!”
“Vincent, you bloody smacked me when -I- go mad like this, what makes you think I'm letting you get away with you doing the same? Now last chance, Vince!” The Garde’s eyes started to glow purple as he prepared himself to do what he had to do, “I may not have this mastered but I WILL make it work on you if need be!” Vince continued to struggle against the two as he tried to free even a single arm. The Poli finally gave in and brought a foot to bear on the heavy bag, the force of the blow was enough to send it off the hook and flying towards the wall where it landed hard and crumpled to the ground. Vince stood there and breathed raggedly for a long moment before he finally collapsed to his knees, his head bowed as his eyes closed tightly.
“V-Vincent-san?” Riou asked as he went down with the Poli, his arms still tightly wrapped around the larger ‘mon’s arm.
“Vince? Vince, are you alright?” Nigel’s eyes stopped their glow as he too went down to his knees along with the other two.
“No,” Vince finally admitted as tears started to stream down his cheeks. The Poli kneeled there and openly wept in front of the two before he gathered himself enough to continue, “What good am I? Really?”
“Vince, mate, this isn't like you...” Nigel pointed out and rested a hand on the Poli’s shoulder.
“You're upset because you can't fight anymore,” Riou reasoned after a moment, concern evident on his face as he watched his brother cry.
“No,” Vince quietly corrected as the tears continued to pour down his face, “Yesterday Dystopia and Crunch got upset with Tidot and started to attack him. I managed to stare them down to prevent anything from happening but...what if they'd kept going? What could I have done? Stand there and watch?” His eyes opened as he turned to look towards Riou, the orbs had turned red from the tears.
“What good am I now? Really? And what ‘bout with Issen? What could I do if Tamara was in trouble?” His gaze changed to look over towards Nigel, “If anyone was in trouble?”
“Well for one thing, you keep your bloody head cool!” Nigel quickly told to him, his voice full of concern and admonishment, “You know how lacking we are in that area and to see you lose yours doesn't give much faith for the rest of us!”
“You're our guide, Vincent-san,” Riou added as he blushed and hugged his brother’s arm tightly, “You help us out when we need the voice of reason and experience. You're our teacher.”
“Then why do I feel like no one actually needs me?” Vince’s voice was a whisper as he closed his lids tightly again, the Poli fought back against the tears in his eyes. Nigel and Riou looked between one another for a moment before their gaze went back towards their friend. Neither had ever seen Vince so broken down, so vulnerable before and neither had thought they ever would.
“Because you're not hearing us well enough,” Nigel huffed and responded, “We DO need you. Riou need you, Meghan needs you, bloody hell I need you...”
“You just feel like no one needs you because you can't do anything,” Riou added his own thoughts to Nigel’s, “But that's not true.”
“I've...been having trouble seeing myself as useful ever since I got out of the hospital,” Vince admitted to them after a moment, his voice slowly gained some strength as his calmed in the grip of the two ‘mon he considered his brothers, “: I look around and just...everyone seems to be doing just fine,” He let out a brief laugh, “I must sound pathetic,”
“Worse, mate,” Nigel admitted, “You sound like me,”
“Indeed...all Nigel-san did in the hospital was mope, I should know,” Riou agreed with the Garde, “I was his roommate,” Vince let out a small laugh at that as he kneeled next to them.
“I'm sorry you guys had to see this. I've just been so,” Vince sighed, “I've just been feeling worthless lately. I don't think even Eddie knew how I was feeling,”
“You know, Riou, you didn't need to elaborate on that...” The Garde sighed before he walked behind Vincent and rested his hands on the Poli’s shoulders as if in prayer, “And for that matter, have you spoken to Meghan? Because if I know her, I know she'd be grilling your arse for talking like that,”
“Meg's had a clue that something might be going on but hasn't figured it out yet,” Vince admitted, “You're the first two I've even given a hint that I've been feeling this way,”
“I see, well, I'm glad we caught you when we did,” Riou said, his grip on Vince’s arm still tight as if he expected the Poli to flip out again.
“Let's see how long that lasts, though. Here we go,” A moment later and Nigel finished his Wish as a series of tiny stars fell on the Garde and Vincent. Soon the Poli felt his strength slowly return to him, “Won't really do much, but that should at least get you on your feet again,” Vince looked over his shoulder towards Nigel and offered him a genuine smile as his breath slowly returned to normal.
“I'm glad you guys came along, I really am,” Vince said as the tears stopped, though his eyes were still red from the crying he had done, “Of everyone...that it was you two,”
“Okay, Riou I could understand…” Nigel said a bit startled at Vincent’s words.
“Honest, Vincent-san, if we weren't coming through here, what would've happened if you heart had given out?” Riou asked poignantly, “We wouldn't have found you till it was too late.”
“I know, brother. I just wasn't thinking at the time,” the Poli reached up and out and pulled the both of them into a tight hug, “And don't give me that, Nigel. I don't call you brother too for nothing.”
“Gah!” was Nigel’s reaction to the hug, never much a fan of them.
“Now, I think you need to go take a shower or something,” Riou said as he chuckled and returned the hug.
“Yes, get yourself hydrated,” Nigel quickly encouraged and hoped it’d get him out of the hug, “I hear you Water-types like that,” Vince laughed in response.
“I also think...I need to go have a long talk with Eddie,” He admitted as he let them go, “Get some stuff straightened out in my head. Tessa said something like this would happen, just didn't think it'd be this soon. Or like this,”
“Wait, Tessa told you you'd start going bonkers?” Nigel asked with doubt in his voice.
“She said that about a year after she lost being able to walk she just lost it one day and wrecked her parents living room,” Vince shrugged as he pulled himself to his feet with Riou’s help, “Said something like that would probably happen to me. Guess it happened a little differently,”
“To your defense, at least you didn't wreck the Gym,” Nigel pointed out.
“Indeed,” Riou quickly agreed as he steadied the Poli carefully.
“Pretty sure Coach Marceau would've kicked my ass if I'd done that,” Vince said as he winced after he fully gained his footing.
“You need any help?” Riou asked and finally let him go so Vincent could keep test to see if he could walk.
“Not unless you guys want to come help me shower or something,” Vincent laughed teasingly as he rubbed the muscles of the arm Riou had gripped.
“Charming image, but I'll have to decline,” Nigel said as he just gave Vincent a look.
“Indeed...same here, Tamara might either take it the wrong way, or she'd use it as an excuse to tease either of us mercilessly.” Riou responded with a cough as his cheeks became a slight violet color from a blush.
“Was joking with that,” Vincent told them with a light laugh, “Not that it wouldn't have been the first time I was in a locker room with you while you were naked, Nigel,” He said before the Poli winced and swung his arms a bit, “I'll be fine, guys. I promise I won't do anything stupid like that anymore,”
“To my defense, I doubt I'd faint again like I did then,” Nigel quickly said, “And you better, because I will tell Meghan on you if you do.”
“I'll do one better,” Riou quickly added, “I'll tell either Miss Eddie or Tamara,”
“Meghan, Eddie, Tamara, Tabitha...sure there'd be a line of ladies ready to chew me over it,” Vince said with a smile before he sighed, “You guys go have fun. I'll be all right,”
“Hell hath no fury and all that biz. See you later, Vince,” Nigel said and watched as he left.
“Alright, I'll see you later, Nii-san,” Riou added.
“Take care, brothers,” Vince offered with a smile over his shoulder before he headed towards the locker room. The two others watched him leave as it seemed like he was back to normal, though they couldn’t help but wonder as they did watch. They waited until he’d entered the other room before Nigel turned to Riou.
“Think he’ll be all right?” the Garde asked his best mate.
“I think so,” Riou said with a nod as the pair started on their way once more. Nigel took a moment to give another glance back towards where their friend had gone. Nigel’s lips pursed as he stuck his hands in his vest pockets.
“Well that makes one of us,”
“Could swear that sounds like Vincent,” Nigel Garkirl commented as the two came to door and peered inside and a moment later their eyes went large and their fears were confirmed.
