Growing like a weed!
Riem molted the other night!
Here are post molt photos. She posed to to give me a maaarvelous shot of that amazing set of iridescent/metallic blue markings she has. Have a look that that! It’s so spectacular!! But with markings like these, I am no longer sure about what genus or species she is! I know nothing!! All I know is that I've never seen markings so beautiful before!!
Her length spans three of my fingers, but she’s so thinly shaped that she still appears quite small. She’s still a jumping maniac, not nearly as comfortable with my hands as Penh is.
She looks majestic, happy and healthy. I’ve just dumped a wealth of tiny grasshoppers into her terrarium, and she’s picking them off one by one, like the true glutton she is.

Western Australia - land of the numbat!
There are 3 local species rampaging about the garden.
Commonly called the "grass mantis', these little guys are sweet. They are utterly invisible when perched on broad grass blades or litte palm trees. Tiny little guys - I've kept them as pets. I have an itty tiny one I keep in the plants be the back door. i put sugar syrup on nearby plant leavesot attract flies for her to eat.

The big ol' stick mantis is a huge long, gawky thing. BIG! There are a couple meandering about the trees and bushes in the garden on any given day.

And my personal fave - Paraoxypilus tasmaniensis
Teeny tiny, fast as a bullet. They blend perfectly with bark - and there is a varient that is quite black and shiny, looking like congealed wattle resin.

Wow she's getting big!
The European Mantis has spots like that but I can't find any reference to them being blue. The New Zealand Mantis has blue spots but not in the same place!
What a mystery- I wonder if they will change colour as she ages? Looking forward to seeing her progress :)

Nice!
We had walking stick insects some time ago, but those were very simple-minded and easy to keep. They were basically programmed to climb towards any height, eat any thin flat surface (including, to our surprise, aluminum foil and flower-decoration), and lay eggs. We managed to keep them going for years, and we gave up on giving them names after the first few generations.
The one time they ate flower decoration, two of them got really high and were intoxicated for days. We decided to remove the decoration after the incident.
