Welcome to Dampertown, middle of nowhere, USA. Possibly the most boring suburb in the world, Dampertown is the home of cat ladies, lonely middle-aged divorcees, and newlyweds looking for that perfect sunny patch of dirt to raise their spawn. The weather always seems oddly pleasant in Dampertown, even when it really shouldn't be, but that's just fine as far as all the residents are concerned, as the town hosts such exciting events as the Bi-annual Staring Marathon and the Onion Eating Contest every year.
Even the news is pretty quiet in Dampertown. There hasn't been a real report of crime in years, and the obituaries are much smaller that what you'd expect for a town of that size. The closest monorail station in miles away in the next town over, most of the residents are driving 20-year-old hovercrafts, and though there has been talk of it for decades now, there seem to be no concrete plans to switch from the town's local wi-fi to the more expansive, efficient system used nationally. But the longer you stay in Dampertown, the less you seem to care.
If you like the quiet, and you don't mind things being a little slow, it's the perfect place to be. Or, at least that's what Otto told himself when he moved there. However, the most extraordinary things can often be found in the most ordinary places, and Dampertown is about to become a whole lot more exciting. After a life in the big city, and a sucessful "career" of being a volunteer for medical experiments, he thought it would be nice to get a little R&R. But ever since he moved in, things have been getting a little strange in Dampertown.
There were a rash of strange electrical problems, there have been sightings of odd-looking men in strange black suits, and it rained on the day of the pie festival for the first time in over 50 years. Also, people seem to be dissapearing and turning up days later with no memories of what they'd been doing.
Out of curiosity, Otto wandered into an abandoned house during one of the outages and discovered a secret lab. The occupants claimed to be members of an alien race called the Barkods, forced into hiding for defying their superiors, intent on taking over Earth. They begged Otto for help, and he reluctantly accepted, volunteering his shapeshifting abilities to the fight. As a gift, they granted him access to the majority of their weaponry, including Otto's personal favorite, an an extending, plasma-bladed rotary saw. Now it's up to Otto to defeat the Barkods and uncover the secrets of Dampertown while still trying to hold together the tatters of what was supposed to be his peaceful new life.
Inspired by that timeless kids-with-special-powers genre. Notably My Life as a Teenage Robot, Ben 10, Animorphs, and Martin Mystery.
My tablet pen was damaged, so unfortunately, I can only offer a sketch until my new tablet comes in next week.
