A sweet pretty treat from the kitchens of
Forest of torment
A different recipe for conchas I tried. I was sort of unhappy with the previous recipe i posted.
This one is a TON easier, no pre-ferment, no weighing ingredients out, no half an egg and no cake flour!
I liked the results much better...I also have since acquired a concha cutter :3 the end result speaks for itself
the old recipe can be found here - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11350186/
Ingredients
yeilds 6 large or 12 small
the new proportions are:
3 teaspoons active dry yeast

1/2 cup lukewarm milk (scalded, then cooled)
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup butter, softened
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 egg
3 1/2-4 cups all-purpose flour
Topping Dough
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
mix milk/water sugar and yeast let stand 10 minutes to dissolve
add butter egg flour salt and Cinnamon mix until you have a smooth yet tacky dough
let rise 1 1/2 hrs
meanwhile make topping
cream butter and sugar add flour and vanilla
form into a log and cut in half cut each half into thirds and pat into 3-4 inch
rounds
take risen dough and cut and roll into six large buns
place one topping round on each bun and form around bun
make cuts on top of bun with a sharp knife, cookie cutter or in my case concha cutter
cover and let rise an additional 40 minutes
bake at 375 for 20 minutes
eat with coffee
when completely cool store in an airtight container
options: you can add a teaspoon of cinamon or 2 tsp unsweetened cocoa or flavored sugar into the topping
I have seen people use strawberry blueberry or banana flavored sugar....with pretty and colorful results
(I have no idea where to find these if anyone knows, please inform me)
enjoy and happy baking
