Kinda reminds me of Spellsinger. There was a kangaroo there too, living in a very Brigadoon-type world, running a shop at the center of a volcano containing items from all of time and space.
But if you damaged her shop, or you didn't pay, she revealed what she had in her pouch. A djinni. A really big, temperamental, angry djinni that thought nothing of putting you under his thumb...literally.
