It doesn't work, I'm afraid. I do that anyway with all my animation uploads and it still produces the standard FA-crappy pixels. :( I think the thumbnails are for like, galleries and people's favs...sadly not our profile pages. :c
(That technique works on all the other websites I'm on, though! Surely FA can make it work someday too.)
