I believe, and may be wrong lol, but a yukata is a bit more simplified and not as flashy? They're worn more casually than kimonos and you don't have to like...put on a bunch of makeup and do your hair and stuff. Also you don't wear socks apparently with the shoes when you wear a yukata, since they are more of summer apparel. Basically one's just a fancy version of the other that's more complex :3
