Ubuntu's Revenge (of the eBay Sniper)
This started as my first foray into FL Studio a couple of months ago.
I started with one instrument, and handed the computer off to Steve, who added on another instrument, and handed it back to me. We grew the bit I started out to about a minute, and then it sat for a bit. Steve had the urge to expand on it while it sat idle on his system, and got it up to what it's at now.
I know it could use more work, but as it stands, I'm not entirely sure what to do with it, other than adjust volume on a few instruments.
Steve rather liked my usage of the TB-303, but now that I hear it again, I don't quite like it.
The song is titled after two events in our lives:
I was fighting with Ubuntu at the time, trying to get my Pantech PX-500 to work under it.
Steve was recently sniped for an Aria Pro II SLB bass on eBay, at the last second. He had it in his sights, and then *pew-pew-pew!* went the sniper's laz0r. Poor Steve. :(

Very nice work here It's a breath of fresh air from the stale generic techno you usually hear on the web. yeah, I would agree that the levels need a lil bit of work. You can kind of tell its a collab. Some of the sections and separate tracks don't flow together quite right. Everything feels a bit sudden. Especially the beginning and ends. I think this piece could really benefit from the addition of an intro section. And listening to it again.. the endings not bad I kinda like the suddenness. The anger and emptiness left in your stomach after that much wanted e-bay item has been sniped away from you I would layer and add some more tracks leading up to the end, really build the excitement. Maybe change up the melody in the guitar "Just 30 seconds left in the auction!!! F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5!!!" and then... "BLAM" its gone... leaving with just that lingering bass note. I would extend that last note longer and then fade to nothing.
Great work you guys!
Great work you guys!
Thanks. :)
I kind of want to do something like retune my tb303 that I used there, since the key just doesn't sit right with everything. I'd like to, ideally, bring it down a couple of keys, since it really stands out in a negative way to me, now that I've been listening to it and working on my personal bit, "Ghetto Metempsychosis" (tentatively named, I must state, heh).
Funny thing is, that short, mellow bit in front of the racing piano is our attempt at a bit of an intro, since the piano is really, uh, strong.
I think my biggest gripe with the piece right now really IS that damn TB-303. *chuckle*
I think I better let Steve know that I've finally got something that bothers me about it. In fact, that funky noise at the end of the piece is also that 303.
Steve's a bit obsessed with his guitar piece (good grief, you think? ;)), but I think I should let him know to flavor that up a bit. :)
Gosh. I kinda went novel-y with the comment here. ^^;

With the intro, that piano riff (1 +a 2e+ 3 + 4 +) begins right on the downbeat. I think things would be much gentler if you started with 4 measures of just strings, piano chords, and the "ping" on 3. Then introduce the 1 +a 2e+ 3 + 4 + piano riff for 4 measures, then the elaborated "racing piano" and guitar. This is all just my opinion tho :-P feel free to take none of my advice at all if you so desire. Music, like most art, isn't always designed with the audience in mind. Just do what you guys think sounds right and it will be
