Crested Gecko Baby
Before anyone asks: No. That's not me in the back. I'm the finger in the picture holding the tiny, friggin adorable, little mesh of thin scales and skin tissue.
Story behind this though is one of my cousins came and visited my grandma while I was there and brought her girlfriend as well. We were all talking when they pulled out two little geckos. Naturally, I flipped because I love reptiles and have been wanting one as a pet for as long as I can remember but they're not cheap and take a lot of care. Mostly the "not cheap" and "Parents are being unreasonable" part is what killed those dreams.
Still hope I can get a few of these guys though as pets since they're lower maintenance than most others... At least that I've seen

Well these ones aren't mine so it would be near impossible with them living out of state... However they have a friend who breeds them, so I asked if they could buy some for me and that I'll pay them back in full. They said that they'll see what they could do since he's got a few more ready to breed and it should be cheap since he's trying to get some of the rare colorations. If I do get a few, then I will c:
Indeed ^,=,^ And I've been told they can live over 15 years. The parents to these two are around 11 or so years old. Sadly though, if something happens to their tails, they won't grow back. One of the parents lost theirs but wasn't told how it happened.
Well the one I'm going to get is about $30 like I said in my other comment. But I think they said he was trying to breed... The name slips my mind but it was called "pie"- something... Only saw it on a snake, but it makes it look more like an albino with spots of a more natural pattern for it scale color. Very rare I guess so it's like breeding for a shiny xD
I have two crested geckos and I recommend them to a reptile keeping newbie( keep saying I wish these were around when I was a kid). I kept green anoles as a child and have a pair of them again now and the crested geckos are so much easier. My green anoles get dehydrated easily even when I stick a fountain in with them and dislike handling( I lost one who bit me on the hand and leaped out of my hand when I kept them in the basement.
They are somewhat jumpy and not as people friendly as beaded dragons( but these require a lot more care and equipment too). They can be handled and tolerate handling lot more then many other herps( or so I've read) . Biggest drawback with them is if they ever lose their tail, it never grows back. So you do not want to accidently grab their tails.
The main problem concerning finances is that crested geckos are not cheap themselves. Cheapest one I could find at a reptile show was $25 and now I can't find any local breeders and everyone is asking $40 just to have one shipped. $50+ seems average for starting prices and this is what they cost at Petco. Many cost $100+ going by classifieds I've browsed.
Their setup will be cheaper then most other reptiles, unless you need heat for them because your room temps drop too low, which in my case I did. If you happen to have a fish tank laying around somewhere, that will work for housing with a screen lid.
Good places to find them are: Faunaclassifieds( which also has a feedback sections for scammers and https://www.kingsnake.com. Reptile shows are the best, especially if you can find one nearby, but you'll have to wait for one to take place. I read that they can be found for as low as $15 at reptile shows sometimes.

I completely agree, wish I knew about these guys growing up, but like I said in the description, too expensive and have many needs. My grandma, however, had a pet lizard long ago that I guess was pretty friendly. She says she kept the little thing on a leash in one of the plants in one of the rooms and took good care of it until one day, she came home and it has accidentally hung itself. She was quite depressed after that. From what I understand, a lot of lizards don't like being handled or are naturally aggressive. I guess their breeder friend once got a crested gecko that wasn't tamed at all and would climb up walls.
I heard bearded dragons do make for good pets but can still be aggressive. To be honest, while they were here we mostly stayed on topic of these little guys or just geckos in all and how to take care of them and such. Not to mention the part about their tails. Better to lose a tail and live to see another day instead of the alternative but I know not to grab them there, I would think it would stress them out as well.
I talked to them last night and they informed me that it would be $30 for a baby and about $10 for the container. They'll provide me with some food for them and a website where I can get more. But from the talk before that, they said that it was about $100-$250 or so elsewhere, so I was ecstatic that she could get me a deal on one. Hopefully, with where I'm living, I won't need a heat lamp or such for them but I'm a little concerned about days when I have school and work since I'll be in town all day and won't be home till late and I'm unsure of how the rest of my family will do on taking care of them. Sounds rude but I have my reasons.
I wish we still had one of our larger fish tanks around, since you mentioned it because I think the one we had we be great for an older gecko once it grows old enough.
Thanks for the links too. I'll check them out and see what I can find. Depending on my schedule and funds, I may be able to go to one of these shows but I doubt it. At least for the time being anyways. Got a lot to do and money's always an issue.
