Gemma James, originally called Gemma because of her rose zircon colored eyes, was born in a home with 13 brothers and sisters. She was typically considered an outcast due to her fantasy land except by one of her older brothers, Alekos James. Honestly, the only reason she was even tolerated by most, was because she had a crazy and imaginative sense of humor. She grew up watching Studio Ghibli films. While they are fantastical and wonderous, the characters go through trials and tribulations. This made a huge impact on Gemma. She decided that if something terrible were to happen, she would be prepared. When she hit age 13 she started to learn to whittle and work metal. While most of her family thought she was crazy for thinking that, Alekos helped her keep going by being supportive of his beloved sister no matter what. That is what family is supposed to do. 2 years later she started teaching herself to detect and create traps and bombs. She discovered the beauty of destruction, but never went overboard. She knew when to draw the line. Although she trusted Alekos, she even kept this part of her secret from him. So while she loves fantasy she believed that someday, shit would hit the fan. On Gemma's 17th birthday, that's what exactly happened. Due to plague and a series of natural disasters, most of the population she knew were either dead or fled to try to find a safe haven. Her and Alekos stayed together for years to come. Then he went out scavenging when a tornado struck, separating the two. Not knowing is he was alive or dead, she went in search and could not find him. She was devastated. She went scavenging for materials and built a plushy resembling her brother, so he was always there with her, even though he was nowhere to be found. She tried her luck in various buildings with a few groups of fursons, all wanting her to be a toy, or treating her poorly, even as bait. Gathering all she could, she wandered into the junkyard outside of the city and set up camp. Finding a surplus of things, including a few new friends, it was here, that she found a place to call her home. She would still look for her brother and post signs that only he would understand, hinting at her location, hoping one day, her dream would come true and they would be reunited.
