Shell of an old stone house I found in the woods awhile back. Judging by the remains of some charred wood I believe this house burned down a long time ago. There was very little left, just some plumbing remnants and an oddly placed handrail. But the house includes an old 18th century well with a small patio around it and there are remnants of two fireplace.

You don't know how much I love ruins and decayed places. I like to think the story before the ruins turned into ruins (lol, this doesn't make any sense at all) and how people used to live there.
It's hard to explain with words exactly how I feel, it's just... Peaceful. Thoughtfull. I dunno.

I agree with you, Giruvegans-aevis. Seeing a long abandoned building or the ruins of one, just about shouts “HISTORY!” at me. People lived their lives in that building, had dreams, maybe tragedies, or maybe ever were born there.
Looking at this pic I immediately wondered if there were any town records still in existence that might tell who its last owners were and what might have became of them.
The latter would probably lead to the “old section” of the local cemetery.

*nods* When I was living out in the country, there was a small off-to-the-side-of-the-road cemetery. There was not more then twenty-five tombstones there.
In a small family plot there, there were three little tombstones for three children who had lived in the area but who had all died during the same year almost two hundred years ago. Like the picture of this house here, not all history is bright and shiny -- but it is part of History.

Interesting. There are a few old family graveyards in the southern half of the state
Yeah, history includes the good and the bad. Even many of history's events had their unexpected bad or good side. I'd guess they may have been the victims of an epidemic of some sort given they all died the same year
