Canada is what America would be like if it had a healthcare system that made sense and there weren't so many groups of people interested in dictating how other people live their lives. I think it's the fact that if you're below a certain level of stupid in Canada you'll freeze to death.
You'd be surprised!
Coat-and-leggings is a popular thing for some reason and those people survive.
Also, we have 5 major political parties rather than the 2 of the states, including one that's exclusively separatists.
And as a fun fact, Canadian Healthcare doesn't exist, each province provides different levels of service.

Yeah. Technology these days makes it tough to freeze to death these days, but having compared the American North and South I can say that this is still a very significant effect. You have to have a certain amount of sensibility to function, if not just survive, through the winter.
Having five political parties would be great! With two it's incredibly polarizing, and the system is basically both parties actively trying to stop the other from ever accomplishing anything, so nothing ever gets done. Would 5 parties pursuing 5 different agendas be super-efficient? No, but at least it would be five parties all focused on accomplishing things. It would be better than having the bulk of our effort go to sabotage and actively STOPPING any work from getting done. And you might have a chance of finding a party that actually represents your beliefs instead of getting pigeonholed into a group that thinks a bunch of crap you don't believe in.
Separatists? Replace Quebec with Texas and that's how it is here. Texas has voted on whether or not to secede from the union annually for decades. Just like Quebec, the margin that they lose by gets narrower every time.
I didn't say "national" healthcare, I said "effective" healthcare. If you can handle that at the province level then good for you! The point is that the hospital won't let you die because your credit card got declined.

All good points,
the 5 parties though... it's our Liberals and Conservatives and 3 lessers (NPD, Green and Bloq)... it's the fact that Quebec (a province) has a NATIONAL party of it's own that bugs me (since a few years back there was actually an election so close that it was possible for the Bloq Quebecois to win)
I'm not the most politically active girl around, but the deals behind doors to get lesser parties to agree on things seems even worse than the two just punching eachother.

Tough call as to whether I'd prefer "shady government deals in the interest of the representatives and not the people" vs "nothing ever getting done ever". Such a shame that those are my only two options.
Stop telling me that Canada isn't a magical utopia! You're crushing my dreeeeams!
