2 hours of work for one photo.
I feel I've push my camera and lens to the limit on this one.
a 1DX and a prime 800 would have been nice to have.
Would have also turned out a lot better if I was in the middle of nowhere and -40 so the air would crystallize... oh well
I think it looks good over all, just missing a little bit of that sharpness
:UPDATE:
after further inspiration I made a 3 phase composite and swapped the files.
you may need to refresh to see it

Excellent photo, R3dfox! I got to watch the 'highlight' of the Blood Moon, in my part of south Florida (between 3:00 and 3:45 AM, E.S.T.), despite the partly cloudy skies. Just out of curiosity, did you (or anyone else) see that tiny little star, directly beneath (and slightly to the right) of the moon, during the eclipse? If so, can anyone identify it for me?
It definitely wasn't easy. It took me about 30 minutes of trial and error shots to get it right. I couldn't expose longer then 1 second because the moon was moving too fast, my ISO was too grainy past 1600, and I had to adjust the focus one hair at a time in between shots until until it until it was just right.
plus it was 40 mph winds that day and supposed to snow. luckily everything died down by morning.
I got so lucky on that. Would have driven out to The middle of nowhere for a clearer shot, but I had to leave for work at 6AM.

You can get an amateur telescope with the electronic pod that moves with the rotation and a DSLR adapter for $500 to $1000, but then I think about how much I would actually use it and change my mind.
I wish I had one in Montana though, the sky was so clear there was an overwhelming amount of stars. even with no moon after 30 minutes you could see for miles from just the star light alone.
Of course even then I was restricted to 1-10 second photos if I didn't want blur, and I only had a bar stool and some sticks as a tripod

But I did 30 seconds anyways and it shows in the stars
