In the Traveller game I created, my room-mate Changa is taking the GM's helm for a series of stories, and I've had the pleasure of stepping into various characters that'd normally be NPC's in my game, including Joan, who happens to be a telepath. Her captain is aware of her talents, though no one else on the ship is, and he sometimes sends her on the away team to 'interview' key people on the planets they visit.


So, yeah, the Uhura of my Traveller game gets more 'away team' missions than the rest of the bridge crew - or any of the bridge crew for that matter. That's what the security teams, and mission specialists are for.
