[SI Commission] The Naturist Clan of Thunder
The Naturists of Thunder suffered the most from the fragmentation of the Balloh clans. Without a recognized leader as the other clans have, their settlements are scattered far and wide, and a large number of Naturists of Thunder are wanderers, traveling on their own or in small groups, living off the land away from other camps. Some find their way to the Malgraan outpost and wander off of Vhanarr entirely; others may join with another clan, and many perish alone in the harsh wilderness.
What settlements they do have frequently send out explorers, perhaps in the hopes of finding something that will restore them to power, or make their lives easier than they currently are. They treat the other clans neutrally, trading freely, accepting any travelers into their settlements just as they hope to be welcomed should they arrive in a foreign clan.
They typically use silver or a material akin to blue steel for jewelry, and each has either a headpiece or a ring. They can add necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, and are the only clan that wears face-plates to cover the tops of their muzzles.
Naturists of Thunder who die among their peers will be taken to the nearest high cliff and tossed off of it, letting them travel back to the ground as a lightning bolt might. However, on account of their wandering, some may be snatched by Kallors and become a meal; others may be on their own when they die and remain there until scavengers come. And while the Malgraan are generally willing to cater to the Balloh and their customs, they draw the line at the whole 'throwing dead bodies off a cliff' thing, symbolic tradition or not, and politely request that the Naturists of Thunder return to Vhanarr if they wish to do that.
The wanderers, by necessity, need to carry their homes with them, which is why groups fare better. In addition to tents for shelter, they need to carry tools to cross Vhanarr effectively, such as ice picks and climbing gear - the Balloh are excellent climbers already, but can use tools to become even better.
Vhanarr is generally not a place you want to be alone. The temperatures are perpetually cold, and most of the creatures are very large and fierce. The surface predators tend to be big and mostly solitary, migrating to certain parts of the land for mating seasons. Even the birds are very big, but there are no insects. Between the frigid temperatures and lack of insects it takes a long time for decomposition to take effect, so there are a number of scavengers too.
The underwater creatures can be smaller, but have their fair share of big creatures too, like giant squid told of in Balloh stories and massive whale-like creatures that can shatter a massive section of ice if they decide to surface there. Most of the underwater ecosystem remains a total mystery to the Malgraan; they have tentatively sent a couple of probes into the water near the research outpost, but the oceans are extremely deep and would require specialized operations that haven't happened yet.
There are a few brave and/or foolhardy Malgraan explorers who set out on foot, without any technology, and with a pack full of supplies and a Balloh guide. The ones who made it back have been integral into building a better understanding of how the Balloh live; while the Balloh who emigrate have been forthcoming with this information, there are certain details they might omit or overlook just because they take them for granted or consider them unimportant.
In the very earliest days a few Malgraan ships were lost when they found out about the planet's magnetic and electrical flux the hard way, and crashed into the surface. Additional time was taken to prepare properly for when the research outpost was constructed, procuring shielded electronics and setting up satellites to track and watch for incoming storms or fluxes.
There is still so much the Malgraan don't know about the Balloh or about Vhanarr, but they're still learning more all the time.
Race and characters belong to me.

Gravity is slightly more than Earth's, but not by a very noticeable amount.
90% of the planet's surface is water, 75% of which is frozen - while there are relatively more 'temperate' areas that experience fewer storms and have more wildlife, they can't really get away from the snow. Most of those areas have already been settled and claimed by other clans already. But the Balloh usually get a lot of their food from underwater - there is no shortage of aquatic life in the oceans and they are good swimmers with very large, long lungs, and they can bring back a variety of creatures to their camps for food.
