For the past week my blue and gold macaw Sasha has been acting strange. She began to lose her balance and would wobble every time she walked on her cage or when sitting on my shoulder. Then she stopped using her right foot and balancing became a real task for her...Then this morning my boyfriend woke me up and told me that she was dying. I went out to see her, she was on top of her cage and could barely keep her head up, it wobbled when she tried. She flinched when I reached out to touch her and she wouldn't respond to my talking or to most of the thing's she likes. Like Saying bye bye when people leave the front door. She basically fell off her cage (I caught her with a blanket) And upon trying to pick her up she ravaged my arm and got my finger in her mouth (Felt like putting my finger through a meat grinder ;~;) But i persisted and she slightly calmed down. This bird has NEVER bitten me (Unless I deserved it) NEVER. She got on the ground and tried to walk which failed. She keeps rolling over onto her back when she tries to move. I took all of her perches out of her cage and padded blankets on the bottom, I put her water down there and a few toys, and I placed a heat lamp from my iguana's cage on top of hers to keep her warm and placed a blanket half way around the cage.
Right now she sounds like she's struggling to breathe, and is what I hope to be resting and relaxing but I honestly don't know if she's going to make it through the night....
She's in her 50's, so she's not young and was beaten most of her life by some man before we accidentally got her from a friend who got her from a rescue lady. I've been through everything with this bird. I've shown her as much love as I could and showed her not all people are bad. She was so aggressive when we first got her, and wouldn't let anyone near her but over the 3 years we have had her she's changed so much.
I really hope she pulls out of this, and that it's just some weird sickness that goes away on her own...
I'm just...Emotionally exhausted right now....UPDATE: Sasha passed this morning at 2:57am-4/12/14-Rest well, for I'm sure one day we'll meet again...Category All / All
