finally managed to to a drawing of Mar's Grandmother, that everyone call Gran Gran
at 856 years old she's pretty much seen and done it all, but her life did not start out easy.

She came into life Iron Born and Off the Grid. which is to say she was born outside the jurisdictions of the countries that make up Dyson "grid" and her society shunned the benefits of Dyson's gift and any intermingling with other races. what was so very odd about her city-state is that it had both humans and quad-bipedal dragons (those who can walk on all fours as well as two)
the dragons were basically a slave race and each dragon would be assigned a human master, if any romantic affections were discovered from any pair then a messy, violent and much celebrated execution, the human population making a real party out of killing the couple (just like "mainstream" is nowadays)

it was on her 14th birthday (off the grid and iron born have brutally short lives) that Gran Gran met the man who would one day become Mar's Grandfather, a talented young adventurer from the city of Iris, the largest city in all of Dyson.

Gran Gran found that this stranger, he was kind and warm and most notably, treated her as an equal not a slave or 'pet'. now she was going to be assigned to a young boy from the city who had a truly vicious streak, so Gran gran opted to doe something 'crazy', she publicly declared that she would be assigned to the stranger.

the man who would become Mar's grandfather took this as a desire to become his student, which for Dyson is one of the highest compliments that can be given, even though that was not what it meant.

needless to say this was not accepted by any of the townsfolk and a group of thugs were sent to murder the stranger... they ended messily.

The stranger decided to take Gran Gran back to Iris for proper training. the city officials sent a force of 300 armed men to stop them before they left town... the stranger this time made their deaths public, brutal and VERY messy, to put out a clear message "I am out of your league"

over the next 20 years the two lived and learned together, first as teacher and student, then as equal friends, then romantic interests and at age 56 Gran Gran proposed and married her rescuer, all but unheard of for two Dysons to marry so young but it happened.

another major difference between their family and traditional is that she had 5 children where 1 is the norm.

her children have long since grown up and her grandchildren, soon she'll have great grand children

Gran Gran is overly protective of all her family, even those on her husbands side who are older than her. she also personally trained Mar as a fighter, and it is thanks to Gran Gran and Mar's own mother as to why Mar is such a vicious fighter.
