Easily the most awesome thing in the commission set.
Firestorm is one of the first things I had an idea for when I was drafting up the original concept for the Balloh, because let's face it, if you've got an extra set of limbs then why wouldn't you want to rock out all that much harder?
Their name has a double meaning; it combines the respective mysticism types of the three band members (fire, and storm=wind+lightning), but it also is a reference to one of their first songs that was composed after Ariar saw a TV broadcast of a wildfire on Malgaria. Such a spectacle doesn't exist on Vhanarr, of course, but it was quite a sight for him to behold, particularly once he learned that the Malgraan let it burn because it was part of a natural cycle, removing dead plants to make room for a new forest. It was inspiring to him, and he picked up a pen and began writing quickly thereafter.
Firestorm does more than just play seriously rockin' music; they spice up their performances with what little mystical talent they have. Hyris gets the wind to swirl around her, Ariar has embers and streaks of flame around his hands, and Elmirian uses metal drumsticks to spark from. Because if you need to be a kickass musician, you should do it in style.
So let me hear you! ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?
The Balloh inherently have a lot of talent with various forms of the arts. Music is one, but painting, sculpting, dancing, singing and others are all right up their alley. Their songs and music are well-known for evoking emotions in the listener, probably a result of their ability to see the spirits of others; they can play their music and tweak it until it has the desired effect on their test audience.
They're also quite capable with art not present on Vhanarr, if they can come to grips with the technology - things like electronic instruments, architecture, 3D modelling and acting. Different groups of Balloh differ in popularity, of course; Firestorm is well-known across all Malgraan space, but there are at least thousands of little indie bands who perform in local bars or clubs or at concert halls in bigger cities. Similarly, for every famous Balloh artist, there are innumerable less well-known but still talented ones who submit their work to smaller art galleries or put it up for general sale on the Relay or at local art shows.
