Not sure where this one came from but it wanted to be drawn. I loved the idea of her snake hair being Corn Snakes to match her own colouring. And besides I adore Corn Snakes:) I've always found Medusa to be a tragic and rather sympathtic character. 8x12 watercolour on illustration board.

I always liked Medusa too. She so didn't deserve her fate.

BTW, Ms Bruton, I like the use of the corn snakes. Esp. since they're supposed to smell a lot like foxes, or so I remember reading.

Well, I'm more referring to being turned into a monster because a god raped her in another deity's temple. Personally, I think that would make me just a tad spiteful too.

Okay, that part of is was undeserved -- but it's not like anyone serving the Greek gods wasn't aware of their spitefullness. Offer a sacrifice in the wrong tone of voice and BOOM!

Indeed, her backstory is very misunderstood. You've captured the source of her downfall -- the beauty that raptured Poseidon.

Nice empathic piece. I dig the corn snakes too.

I want to make a story anthology of moody horror with sympathetic monsters. It would be neat if I could be inspired with an idea for Medusa.

Wow, I'm gonna have to look up the mythology on her again. Cant remember off the top of my head and this is a lovely representation of her, makes the whole stone gaze thing seem more along the lines of the midas touch.

tragical fate allright. but, wasn't that the case with all of the greek gods' victims? their mythology is full with evidence that they were worse than most humans.

A vulpimorph Vixen with serpentine tresses? I really like the composition and colours of the piece. (I might just try to think up some way to work that idea into my "Artist and Muse" comics.)
