How do you mean? Generally my scenes don't need to be transparent anywhere, but I do use varying brush opacity when actually making them.

Oh, yeah! For these I take a much more painterly approach, so a lot of it is just like digital painting (with a few tweaks).

Did you use resize and indexed color for photoshop ? or dither pattern brushes ?

For the dithering? Kind of the first! I'm kind of stupid with the terms, but I basically save a version with a smaller palette size (2-8) with a pattern dither type, then overlay and fade it in so the dither is there but not as strong as it would be straight-up.
