That's right folks, it is not just part cheetah part fox... but part kitsune fox! meaning its gotta have more than one tail!
These tails as requested are huge! So huge we had to take an unconventional approach to stuffing them after finding even the most loosely packed pillow stuffing too heavy.... so each is 80% styrofoam packing peanuts.... they are so very very light weight now!!!
The three are all rigged together as a unit on 3 extra wide nylon straps each 2 inches wide, that is 6 inches of strap coverage so the weight is spread out.
I spoke with the customer about making the center tail is larger and darker to add some variety to the mix, it also allows the center to be more visible from the side, I love the results (the back will have a marking on it to tie in the center tail color, which is also the color of the bridge of her nose)
Them spots took ages to do and I did as many of them as I could to match the pre-printed fur, and I tried to copy the meandering pattern seen in the fur (which also has some small unspotted gaps) the spots are larger than the pre-printed fur but that is because if I made them smaller they would look like tiny vertical stripes not spots XP
At first we were going to airbrush them but DF fur just does not take paint well, it takes more brushing and more coats with this texture of fur to get the color laid on, and there is no way I could have gotten the spots this solid with airbrush work, in the end despite the extra work I am glad we did not do airbrushed spots!

WOW! That is one AWESOME tail(s)! And packing peanuts?? That's a pretty good idea! I was wondering what they were stuffed with. I have one giant tail myself stuffed with poly fill and it is super heavy. I can't imagine how heavy all three of those would be stuffed with poly fill!!
Two things:
1. I thought airbrushed spots looked better than sewn spots. But those look more real so I have to remember to sew rather than paint spots! Nice to know!
2. I thought my lion's tail I did a while back was way too big. Guess not as these are huge but great! Never would have thought larger would work in tails in general!

that is DF monkey shag, 4 inches long but only good for long applications, you can't trim it shorter because it is actually woven as a bunch of small circles of fur in a mesh backing. Oh and it does match the extra bright whiteness of DF white and it matches the texture.
Hi Beastcub!
I made a tail once and it was about as big as one of these I think.
I want to make another in the same size, but my last one was very very heavy and I used
polyfill to stuff it. I still want it to be squishy and playful, but even the base of it was eventually getting really hot and sweaty
(I was only wearing the tail, not even a partial!) Do you ever find this happening? This tail was more uncomfortable than wearing
a head for me for some reason x.x
I love this tail shape, and was wondering if you had any tricks to make one tail (not three, ahaha) lighter, without packing peanuts so that it was still really soft, but still light and hopefully less sweaty?
Thank you so much if you can help me with this!
Cheefox is my favorite so far based on her adorable expression and creative material! :D
