It's just cold press that comes in the watercolor moleskine books. When I photographed it my light source was on the side and it makes the tooth more obvious. Kind of like when craters on the moon are more visible during the quarter phases. I could have waiting until daylight or do it the right way and bought a scanner, but I'm an impatient dumbass.

It looks really empty to me, phano. I think the picture could use a few trees in the background and fluffy white clouds in the sky, and some shadows underneath the foreground subjects. Well, that's just my critique, anyway ;)

I tried to go for a wide, spacious feel like hilltops I used to live near, but I see your point; the hills back there could have used some more detail! There are some vague shadows in the original too, but they don't show up here.

Aww, this is lovely. :) I understand your frustration with scanners/photographing traditional media, though. I guess there's truly no way to capture it outside of actually seeing it in person! And I can vouch for the fact that your work looks stunning in real life :)

Thank you! It's almost counter productive when the prospect of fighting with the digital version is in your mind when you are painting.
But that table existed in real life once. I never had tea on it, but I saw it every day on my bus route in grade school. :3
