it began ugly
low and crawling
to suck and gnaw
at life, gorge and wallow
only consumption, simple
mind, unable to fight
only alive to feed
to become bloated, swollen
and to be prey, so was
its lot in life
until it grew up
nature tempered it
standing tall on
the seasons before
and unlocked that
which forged for it
the world has, changed
alchemy. lump of coal
to gemstone, and so it
flies away, beautiful. far.
and so from the worm, the butterfly came
butterfly, wolf, man

Jimmytalon did this wonderful painting to accompany a selection from one of my favorite poetry pieces, and the first I've ever had published. He did several wonderful peices for me, and his work is definitely worth checking out!
