Watched an interesting playthrough of Dark Souls a while back. Ya see, in the lore, before Artorias went mad from prolonged exposure to the Abyss, he gave Sif his shield, which allowed the wolf to survive long enough for the Chosen Undead (you, sent back in time by a monster named Manus literally reaching into the future) to rescue him, and fight the creature responsible for the Abyss's spread. However, this player did not have use for the soul gained by fighting the crazed Artorius, or for the shield. However, he had defeated Sif in an earlier boss fight.
What he did before he faced the final boss was quite touching. He went back to Artorius's Grave, where Sif is fought, and deposited the collected souls of Sif and Artorius, along with the greatshield and a ring that Artorius once wore. There was no in-game prompt to do this, no mechanical reward. And yet, as he stated, it just felt like the right thing to do. Ensure that beast and master are able to rest, together once more. At least, until the endless cycle of light and dark repeats, and Sif once more must defend his master's grave from an undead unable to leave things well alone.
