After around 3 very solid days of work I have completed this mask sculpt for the character Clyde the Creep, which will be featured in an upcoming film/photo project. He is a very unpleasant and repellent sort, and I have a feeling that this face is only a mask for the truly grotesque creature that hides beneath it. Certainly delving into darker territory here.
The sculpt was handed over to my makeup artist friend this past weekend, and she will mold it and fabricate a few copies in foam latex. I had originally intended to go for silicone, but I have painted latex pieces in the past and know my way around that material better. Silicone, while more resilient, requires further study and experimentation on both my and the makeup artist’s parts before we attempt finished pieces with that material.

I can get obsessed with texture. It started out as a merely ugly guy, then I kept adding more boils and disease patches as they looked better in quantity. Lots of time spent with a toothpick or needle doing pointillistic detailing. The foam piece wound up picking up most of that which is great.
