AHA I know quite a few security guards
How much did it cost to get your guard card? (Several people I know said theirs was $300 total)
Are you armed? If you are is it voluntary or did the job specify armed? What kind of stuff do you have to guard? like is it just the equipment or like a storage building? Do you have to make rounds or is it just a single post watch? Have you ever patrolled before? My brother did patrol for Goldcoast (southern california) and he just hated it.
AND the best question of them all;
what is the weirdest thing you've had happen?
For example, my mother is a security guard, and she once had a post at a Footlocker self storage facility. Around 9 PM she had to make rounds to make sure all the storage rooms were closed, when she found this man dressed in full drag, complete with makeup, 6" heels, fishnets, etc. and talking with this really deep voice, trying to strike up a conversation about bras ????
I don't judge drag/crossdressers/gays/so on and so forth but dang

I had to do a Basic Training with my Company, won't name it here for various reasons... so did not cost me anything but about 8 hours of trying not to face plant the table during the test, I am not armed at this post but we do have the option of being Armed if the Post Orders call for such a thing, right now I just watch the site and make sure no one trespasses on the site, usually we have a night crew of sub contractors on site for now but once they are gone then the site will be in total lock down, nobody but Security allowed on site during non operational hours.
Mostly guard the workers and all their tools and the plant itself, we do have to do rounds usually starting around 8PM after the night crew is on and all remaining day crew and admin are off site, then its patrols once an hour till the 6AM shift comes on and patrols stop.
I am Ex Military so these Patrols are nothing like what I had trained for so nothing I see, hear or find during a shift really surprises me.
So far I have not had to many weird days, just usual quiet nights of just trying not to fall asleep and just trying to stay warm and dry while out on the utility cart doing the Tours, I am sure something weird might crop up in the future, one never knows.

As for staying warm, thermals are the best things ever for graveyard, apparently. My mother has to patrol around an outdoor mall on a segway of all things and because she's making that cold wind around her on the segway, she gets freezing at night - so she bought some white thermals and some good cotton gloves and she's toasty warm all the time. They only cost like $10 at wal-mart for the pants & a thermal top.
If you don't mind me asking, what's the weirdest thing that's ever happened to you in the military? I have heard some amazing stories from ex-army/navy/marines.
I also just gotta ask - have you ever heard of a company called Doucette Security, or Parrent Security (SoCal)?

Yeah I have thermals but looking at going to Ranger Joes next winter and getting this set of thermals called Gator Skins, should be well worth it, I also have a fleece full head and neck ski mask and a Carhart jacket that I wore over the winter, so keeping warm was not to hard.
weird Military stories, during my Basic I heard that a couple trainees got kicked out because they got caught having sex in the dumpster behind the mess hall of all places >.>, and just before I got discharged from active duty we did have someone swap the tape of Rivalee in the morning during the flag raising, somehow without the night CQ knowing, they got in, change the tape to play the first part of the Flag call, then when the cannon was fired and the flag started to go up, Chef from South Park ripped through the crisp morning air singing Chocolate Salty Balls loud enough it could be heard at the mall a 1/2 mile from base... That did not go over well.
as for those Security companies, have not heard of them, this is really the first experience I have had with private sector security.
