Olgantha: Garn Augustine, God of Agriculture and Seasons by
Holy symbol of Garn Augustine, god of Agriculture and Seasonal Change
Garn Augustine:
Some say Garn Augustine was the first man that Dahcik created. Others say he existed far longer than the mad magician. Either way, the image of a bearded man shearing wheat or corn or rice with a highly-detailed sickle has existed in Olgantha since ancient times. It is thought that more prayer reach Garn Augustine than any other deity simply for his expansive portfolio. One strange feature of this god is the backwards facing of his hands. Once thought to be an error, it’s far too common a feature in different mediums to be an artist error, leading many to believe the former origin premise to most likely being true.
Garn Augustine sees sex purely as a procreative act. There isn't much point in planting your fruits in autumn, after all. This does not preclude all forms of intimacy, however, poor harvests in such homes can be seen as a mark of disapproval in the eyes of some.
These are the teachings of Garn Augustine:
Sow your seeds early in the community; ingratiate yourself to the land and make it fertile.
Outpour your heart to your fellow man in a deluge through your good works and fertility as the summer and spring does the fruit and flower.
Fell any dissent among your tribe quickly before the leaves change. Nip the bud before it ruins your entire tree and reduces all you have worked for to perpetual winter.
The hard work required of followers of Garn Augustine can be exhausting and the final demand of the reverse-handed god of the harvest can be too much to bear for many. It is not uncommon for those zealously devoted to take their own life after a failed crop or to deprive themselves of what little they might have until they die a weathered husk, discarded to be meals for vermin.
Oddly enough, every one of the savage races counts Garn Augustine among their pantheon, with little variation among his teachings, though there he tends to prefer the outpouring from one’s heart to be a bit more literal.
