Part of this is from a business trip I had to take earlier this year. It's also partly about me as a person, and the way I behave toward other people. While this doesn't actually represent me in any accurate way, there is a lot of bits and pieces that are directly siphoned off of my personality.

Cool story, and if the island of Earl had a king and he had an uncle, he could be the...
Wait for it
Duke of Earl!
Buda-bump tish... thank you, thank you, I'll be here 'till Thursday, try the veal.
Seriously, nothing I can add really other than it begs to be longer. Knowing you, I can see a glimmer of yourself in this but again not really. Also, the trip needed that air of "total waste of time" that the real trip had unlike this story... learning software that was due to be replaced in 3 months or some such perhaps.

I like the characters here, though I was surprised that Yarael didn't get more irritated by the "Scrabble name" line, since Ross seems to go on about it a bit.
And I can sympathize, in my case not so much a work situation as online, and particularly as it relates to the fandom... part of the problem, of course, being that online personas may be just that -- personas. Not to mention that sometimes it feels like you don't belong just because you're not willing to either 1) advertise every aspect of your private life, including any and all sexual proclivities, or 2) be so cryptic about everything that you won't even give out your real last name if someone has something to mail to you. >_<

The 'Scrabble name' thing is actually something I noticed about my own work. To keep 'morphic characters seperate in the reader's mind, I give them names that are made up. For a kick, I decided to have a human complain about it. For their part, I expect 'morphs are used to the complaint.
Nice as always. I’m more than a bit like that too, most of the people I’ve worked with for years know next to nothing about me. The funny thing is every time someone finds the tiniest clue to the real me its as if a new continent had just been discovered right in the office. I just pass it off as the amusement of the day.
If I were in Earl's position, I'd be...kinda annoyed at Ross' sudden outburst. I mean, why does he care? Strikes me as the clingy, co-dependent type who needs to be cool with everyone. Dude, just shut the hell up and drive. XD
Unsuprisingly, I sorta emphasize with Earl, but not in the "God, why can't these stupid people leave me alone." way. Weird as this is to just say out loud, I take a rather active enjoyment in being an enigma, keeping whoever I choose at arms length and knowing very few people I interact with actually know anything about me. Even here, especially here. If only people knew what was going on upstairs, now THEN I'd have all the privac I'd ever want at work. lol
