I used my Economic Stimulus package to buy a Wacom tablet today! The rumors of the learning curve are true, as is evidenced by my drawing of Kenny. Basically I need to train my hand before doing any full-digital drawings.
This is the Wacom Bamboo Fun, small size. So far, the small size hasn't been a problem, as it actually feels large on this computer. This is the cheap model, but the only feature I feel I would miss is tilt control. This is my first tablet, so this will be fine for now. When I actually start making money from my art, maybe I'll upgrade.
(words done using one size of brush, and pressure sensitivity which is useful)

Yaaay!
They're great little products. *pats his black one*
Sketching in photoshop / GIMP can be a little weird. Have you tried openCanvas or Artrage or TabletDraw?

I have a Macintosh(with PowerPC processor), so openCanvas is out of the question. I do plan on getting a Windows computer next(although Linux may be the main OS on it), but that'll be when I can afford a new computer. The other programs look nice(I've heard nice things about ArtRage), although Photoshop, Illustrator and Corel Painter Essentials are making me very happy right now. I've tweaked my PS brushes since I drew this picture and am achieving really nice strokes with the pressure sensitivity now. One of my scribbles will be appearing in my scraps very soon.
