Actually they quite sparingly will wag them. Wagging their tails is part of their very precise repertoire of body language. They cannot afford to "Say" the wrong thing, and usually will only wag the tails when they are ecstatic.

I know what you are feeling. It was a joy to be around them.

I see four in frame and you are right the near wolf seems to be saying I need a time out. It seemed when I was around friend's wolves if one of them was stressed they would come to me to cuddle, be petted and talked to. The alphas would many times come to me showing submission, and want to cuddle and tuck their heads under my chin or arms. I could feel their trust in me and they just wanted that contact with their human.

Awww, yes. It is an honor to have such a powerful predator surrender their authority to you, a human who is vastly inferior to them in the physical realm. But they still crave human affection. As we know by our wonderful dogs :)

Yes even as strong willed at my malamutes were when they got loose and finely made it home or I found them the first thing they wanted to cuddle with me. Tundra got lost and I got a call so I went to pick her up. When I got there the first thing I did was sit on the ground and let her come to me and cuddle and she pressed herself into my chest and tucked her muzzle under my chin.

The people that found her were going to bitch at me for abusing her till they saw how she acted with me that was also when they found out she was abused before we got her.
