A psionically empowered undead clone of his former glory, Ndeev'Chak's desperate attempts to remain on has led to many such monstrosities over the years.
Originally the 'clones' were psionically dominated, and did the remnant of Ndeev'Chak's bidding, but over time they became too free willed, and he began killing them upon decanting, and reanimating them with a limited range 'raise undead' effect. They're less intelligent than their living forms, but still retain an etching of Ndeev'Chak's psyche.
If there's one thing Ndeev'Chak hates though, its being enslaved by itself - so quite a bit of mental energy is put aside into keeping the animated clones in check. If they try to run away though, the psionic tether that animates them snaps, and they simply fall apart once travelling a few miles away from their master.

For the level 1 adventure I'll be posting to scraps (hopefully before I head home from work today).

The green crisscrosses? Yeah, wanted to break up the drabness of the base 'undeady' elements of the husk - Its weird, but I'm happy with it as an experiment. :>
And yeah, same here, though in the adventure specifically, this was a clone, tank grown, then killed, then reanimated - Husk only in that its all dried out, but the whole bug's there, more or less.
I think animated skins would be something called Wraith Shells or something similar, though Husk woulda been appropriate too.

I figure, of the surviving 'ancients' influence the majority are 'lesser' ancients ... ie, insectoid races that don't have ungodly power ... and undead remnants - Equivalent of Liches, Vampires, Wraiths, Ghosts, etc.
Yeah, put that in your pipe and smoke it - A Shakethsin Mage, with a Lich template o.O - someone EVERYONE would drop what they're doing and go to war against, not just the sea peoples. And I'd hope that no Scarab Lord proper ever acquired any of the major undead templates before being 'killed'.
