Actually, Robotech was a direct rip off of 3 different animes- each from the same animation studio. However, I found at least 2 more series by that same studio (same style even) that Robotech never got around to using!

The music, love, comes from Super Dimensional Century Orguss, and is called "Sky Hurricane". As I have the soundtrack, I have to say I ADORE that specific song. ^_^
The first aircraft / multiform as well is from Orguss, though I forget the proper designation for it. It was fielded by the Emaan Trading Families, specifically the Leegh-Meras family, aboard the fancarrier "Glomar". It saw extensive use in the series.

Hon, not only have I heard of it, I've got the soundtrack (as mentioned above), the entire series subtitled, USED to have the Orguss Memorial OVA, AND I have Orguss 2 (nowhere NEAR as good IMHO). So yes, hon, I remember Orguss. ^_^
I had the Orguss itself as a model, and got third-hand the one you have in the panel. Had a third one, but that one suffered destruction at the hands of my impatient landlord who wanted me and my household out. I also lost my $350 airbrush compressor to the damn dweebus. To this day I want to take a sledgehammer to his drunken smiling face...
Nonetheless, if you ever want to talk about Orguss, feel free! ^_^
