This is the WIP of the later image, which will be going up immediately after this. I uploaded this because I feel this version shows the amazing detail that
DarkSilver put into his version of Annemarie's armor.
I have very few critiques of this armor - the ear holes and non-face-covering helmet aren't normally how I think of her plate armor, but she's also the type to go for lighter armor, so I could see her using a lighter helmet. Ear holes are a serious defensive vulnerability, but for the commander of a force, being able to hear clearly can be very, very important, so I'm willing to let it slide!
Annemarie - and by extension, her armor - is usually from the 15th century, or from Celeste, a setting which has 1450s level tech. The plate armor suit here is more akin to an early one from 1350, where the gaps between the plates are still large enough to require wearing a haubergeon (chainmail shirt) underneath the plates (you can see she's wearing one in this image by the bit underneath her chin), but it looks so good I don't even care. The disarming spikes on the forearms look awesome. You can see where all of the gaps - the inside of the elbow, etc - are covered by the haubergeon - an amazing job was done detailing that, as well as the segmented abdomen.
As far as I know, Annemarie's sword here is a composite of several different 15th century longswords, but is very similar to some actual designs I've seen - upturned hilt, small lozenge-shaped ricasso, and a tapered, long blade. I don't know of any swords of this type that have an engraving, but I love the depiction here.
Another thing I love that Darksilver remembered is that plate armor wasn't worn on its own - cloth coverings, tabards (like the half-tabard 'skirt' Annemarie is wearing here), cloaks and all sorts of things were put on them both to identify individuals and to keep dust, sand, grit and junk out of the articulation lines. This depiction of a half-tabard skirt and practical cloak is quite impressive-looking - I don't think I can think of her armor as lacking this from now on!
Oh, and by the way? All of this was $30. I feel incredibly guilty. Everybody go commission Darksilver - look at the quality you get for the price. It's incredible.
