Nogard (the 'human') and his companion Frostbite.
Nogard received Frostbite's egg about a year before he started his ascendant training. After two years without it hatching, he began to think the egg might be a dud. That is until he got trapped outside during a freezing cold winter, forgetting he had a dragon egg in his backpack. When he went through to get his survival kit, the egg rolled out and fell into the cold lake. He freaked out but a little baby dragon crawled out and curled up around him. The moment he touched her, the gems appeared on his hands and her eyes lit up. She helped him make a fire to stay warm and used her little body and wings to block as much of the wind as she could so that he could stay warm.
They've been pretty inseparable ever since then.
