There were cartoon, GI Joe PSA's where the Joes were in, like, thirty second commercials where they told kids "Don't play with fire", "Don't touch downed electrical cables", "Don't play on the ice" and stuff like that. Then some people on the net dubbed over them and made everyone sound insane
Aaaaaaannnddd...
This is why the state shouldn't issue marriage certificates at all. Find a church to get you married, then go to the courtyard and get your civil union paperwork. Nothing changes legally, and the die-hards get to argue against other denominations over gay marriage, instead of the state.
...Why is this so hard again?!

Because denial of gay marriage isn't about denominations, state or federal government. The people who don't want gay marriage, want marriage to be the domain of the church. Giving the perception you can't have a marriage without denominations of religion tells people you aren't allowed to have marriage without a denomination of religion, and if you don't already know that, people who want their cultural beliefs to dominate your life aren't interested in telling you otherwise.
That's why your typical religious person will say "I'd like to help you, but marriage is defined as the union of one man and one woman (in my bible!)" And the idea of changing it is somehow sacriligious; it means their religious cultural position is not the de facto truth. All it is is a pretense to deny homosexuals credibility and legitimacy, in a way to economically deprive them.

do they seriously have neighborhoods zoned families only? then they ought to have neighborhoods for singles only - unless singles are mere peons only thought of as yet-to-breed ^.^
hmm plus its like - when i have to look to society to legitimize anything i do - its going to be because they are all my pyramid-building slaves licking my toes and serving me ferrero rocher on a gold plate <3 its the merrican dream

That's exactly what it is, if anything at all. It's the same deal with the soft racism, classism and exclusionary selling practices of Home Owners Associations. Some clever monkey figured out you could buy land and make homes and get paid by people to let them live there and live by your rules. Little fiefdoms in all but name.
That's not freedom, it's serfdom by another model.

Well... sometimes I think it is. I don't think all the anti-gay people are out there shouting "FAGS SHOULD DIE!" I think a few of them really are just misinformed, and really would change their mind if someone just explained things to them and gave them a while to muddle the new ideas around in their brain, instead of putting them in defense-mode by calling 'em homophobic bastards. Not EVERYONE of course, but, a few people here and there.
Not really, after you mentioned it I went and looked it up, they are a part of zoning law in my state.
The supposed intent is to stop things like dorms or boarding houses from being in neighborhoods. But does have the knock on effect that it can be used to harass anyone in a domestic cohabitation situation who are not married, blood relatives, or raising a child that they have joint custody of. Seems to be sloppy bill writing that got used for unintended stuff, but that still doesn't excuse it.

And conversely, homophobes who aren't religious! But yeahhh, some people, I think some people CAN be swayed, because they just don't know the right facts- but with other people, it's like trying to argue with an inanimate object- not a dang thing you can say to change their brains.
I couldn't see myself as married given the psychological and financial ruin that is divorce industry in most developed countries, but that doesn't mean I've ever felt reason to deny same sex couples the privilege, or from earning the right. Interesting thing about your comic though, you highlighted a good number of the financial and emotional benefits to marriage, but none of the societal benefits. For example, the diminished psychological stress and social anxiety a homosexual youth may experience knowing that they could seek out openly homosexual mentors and safe zones as they develop into adults.
