Kidding, of course. It still sometimes surprises me when someone's struggling with a pose and forgets that as long as they have a mirror or digicam they always have a model to draw from.

i feel like there's such a de-emphasis on using reference, and it's really cool to see how you go about using it!

Personally, I prefer this method: http://qualitytutorials.tumblr.com/.....arth#postnotes because it prevents the artist from directly copying any photo or art piece directly-and it really allows you to learn a lot, so that after a few times-you won't need to reference anymore c:

Ah that is a good method! actually, that's partially what I was going for on this one. The idea was to compose and decide your pose before even looking for reference at all, and then to make the references fit your art instead of changing your art to fit whatever reference you find. In the end though, reference is just a tool, and with practice one can certainly move on without it.
