Skylar Ferrotti in Parent Troubles

After Mitzi skipped off, seemingly happy with the arrangement she made, Romano regarded Skylar steadily. “What?” She asked, her metal face wrinkling in confusion.
“Skylar...” Romano searched for the words. “Have you in fact become the biggest idiot ever?”
“Subtle.” Skylar observed. “And Geist still claims THAT title, thank you very much!”
“Sky...just HOW do you intend to get your teammates to go along with this scheme if you DON'T want them to know about how your dad is a jerk?”
“....” She opened her mouth and raised a finger but no noise came out.
“You...didn't think about that, did you?” Romano deadpanned.
Skylar coughed. “Not as such, no.” She admitted. “Look, so there a few bugs in my plan—”
“A FEW?!”
Skylar went on as if Romano hadn't spoken. “--but that just means that we need a plan.”
“...So we need to think of a plan to make your first plan work?” Romano was understandably incredulous. “Sky, it speaks volumes that I'M the voice of reason here.”
Skylar thought it over and snapped her talons. “I got it! I'll hire a team of dittos—” Romano groaned. “You didn't let me finish.” Skylar pouted.
“I didn't need to.” Romano covered her face. “Any plan involving dittos is doomed to fail.”
“You're just saying that because your attempt to get Sexton to 'share' Zeke with you blew up in your face.” Skylar noted.
“...My point remains valid.” The bag girl ground out. She sighed. “Go ahead, finish explaining your, 'brilliant' plan.”
“Well, I tell my teammates that our match is canceled and then have them replaced by dittos! That way, my teammates never have to know!”
“So instead you lie to them, manipulate them, commit an expellable offense by having someone stand in for your team during an official school match,” Romano ticked off the points on her fingers. “And where the heck will you even find three dittos you can get to go along with this? Or raise the money to pay for their services?”
Skylar's face fell. “Oh...Wait, I got it, I'll call in sick!” She exclaimed. “It's so simple—”
“Simple minded maybe.” Romano rolled her eyes.
“I never knew you could be this snarky. You've been around Sam too long.” Skylar opined.
Romano looked apologetic. “I'm sorry, but you're just not thinking rationally. If you call in sick, you hurt your team and its a really trite excuse anyway. Besides that wont stop the match from proceeding and your dad will either STILL meet the team or go visit you and find out that you're not sick.” She sighed. “Sky, give it up. These half-baked plans are just going to end up hurting everyone you know.”
Skylar raised a questioning brow. “Everyone, huh? Just how are YOU getting hurt?”
“Because *I* have to act all responsible and sensible since you've gone nuts! Do you know how HARD that is for me? I don't like it!” She whined. “It's like asking Rene to wear a suit! It's just SO out of character for me!”
“Heh, touche.” The metallic bird allowed. Then her face fell again. “Maybe I can change my name, move to another city—”
“I don't recommend it.” Romano said, her voice deceptively bland and ironic. “What other 'brilliant' plans do you have? How about getting a psychic to mess with your dad's perceptions or memories?”
The skarmory fidgeted. “Well, actually—” She admitted.
“SKYLAR!” Romano moaned. “Most of these plans will get you in MORE trouble than you're already in! Including LEGAL trouble!”
“Well you could try suggesting something instead of just shooting everything down!” Her friend snapped at her. “Tell me, what would YOU do in my place? Huh? Does the great Romano Gligax know what it's like to be afraid of losing everything? Of being pulled away from the place and people she cares about just because her father wants to? Does she? Does she know how terrifying it is to even THINK about standing up to her father? Or telling her friends the truth and risk losing them?”
Romano looked down, it took all her willpower not to scream that she understood even better than Skylar did. “...no, I don't.” She whispered, her voice dangerously close to cracking.
“Then kindly say something more helpful than snarky remarks about how bad my ideas are.” Skylar said coolly as she sat down on the bench, tucking her elbows between her legs and resting her chin in her hands. “I'm scared, okay?”
“I got that.” Romano sighed as she sat down next to her. “I'm sorry.”
“It's okay.”
“Look,” the gligar started. “Why don't you just go back to your dorm and rest for a bit. Maybe tomorrow we'll be in a fresher state of mind and be able to think clearer.”
Skylar hesitated, then nodded. “Yeah, that sounds like a plan.” She gave a weak chuckle. “You know, underneath the crazy, air headed, nymphomaniac—”
Romano looked at her. “I GET the picture.” She drawled.
“What I mean is,” Sky started again. “Is that you're actually a lot wiser than you let on.”
“If you tell anyone, I'll deny it.” Romano said, tongue-in-cheek. “Seriously, if word got out my rep would be ruined and Rene and Sam would expect me to do actual WORK. Can't have that.”
“No, I suppose not.” Skylar got up and stretched. “I'll talk to you tomorrow. Bye Ro.”
“Bye Sky.”
