Idea I sketched for Floraverse, it's a kind of weasel that has an affinity to primarily light and dark, the name is based on the affinities in japanese. This affinity is sometimes coupled with a sub-element, but it's sub-element is never outside the range of base elements. The likely-hood of having an affinity at all is actually quite low as both light and dark affinities come at a price.

Upon birth a Hikarmi has no assigned affinity, they are born with two tails, and have normal eyes (Not slitted or darkened). Every Hikarmi is born with a small crystal ball, this crystal ball is rumored to hold the essence of their life force. Whether this is true or not only a Hikarmi would know. However they are extremely protective of these crystal balls. At birth the parents choose whether or not to remove on of the two tails. Removing the second tail removes their ability to gain their affinity(ies). This also comes at a mobility and versatility loss as the Hikarmi's tails act as secondary arms capable of quite the range of movement.

Most have their second tail removed because of the price that comes with gaining their affinity(ies). A Hikarmi of the Dark Affinity slowly begins to lose its sight as it matures, eventually becoming completely blind. However Dark Hikarmi see in a new way entirely, their eyes able to sense and visually recognize the flow of magic in the world. However, light of any kind is absolutely blinding to a Dark Hikarmi, as such they typically keep their eyes closed and instead use their heightened sense of sound to get around. Following the flow of magic isn't the easiest to manage either as it almost never reveals physical objects well; objects and creatures with no affinity are invisible.

A Hikarmi of the Light Affinity is the exact opposite, and possibly more severe of the two. The world of a Light Hikarmi is pristine, vivid, and they see in colors otherwise impossible, but, it's for this very reason they are also completely color blind. These colors switch, fade in and out, disappear, and reappear. An apple to a light Hikarmi may be red one moment, green the next, purple, orange; this leads most light Hikarmi to become out of touch with reality. These Hikarmi tend to be difficult to work with or even sometimes completely insane from the constant shifting of reality, unable to perceive the world for what it really is.

Light and Dark Hikarmi have one particular ability in common however, their affinities allow them to meld with light and dark respectively
