Ever considered one of those NEAT brand scanners that are designed for scanning receipts and keeping records backed up? There's a model that looks like a stick, so it can be transported in a suitcase/bag and I believe it can scan a normal size sheet of paper. I don't know if it scans in full color though, or even how detailed it would be.
