HL1 still gives me nightmares with all the scripted scary shit, people getting pulled into vents and barnicles chomping on marines... hell when that server fell on the scientists and the bloody skull rolled out I had to quit HL1 for a year X.x Pinkle I ment to ask you in a PM but I never got around to it - in your fiction do you portray breen as misguided, honestly believing this is the best for humanity, or just pure evil badguy material?

I think Breen was a coward and did whatever it took to save his own ass (which basically just happens to mean humanity as well). Misguided? No. Evil? Nah. Just a coward. He's certainly one hell of a speaker though :p

He doesn't strike me as the cowardly type though, he's always making public announcements and challenging gordon's morals directly, at first I thought of him as misguided because of the backstory with him and the G-man back in black mesa and setting up the whole "I'll give you earth if you make me leader" or whatever the hell happened, the bottom line is he preached about it being the next evolution of humanity, technically if everything was part of the combine there would be no wars and pure peace (yet no free will etc) anyway, the more I found out about stalkers and the whole "part" humanity plays in the combine war machine I kinda figured he's just pure evil

I just finished playing the game a couple of days ago, and Breen strikes me as a "Quisling." Basically, a Quisling is someone who can't deal with a fight-or-die situation, so they want to please the enemy and become like them. To me, when the Combine was beating in his office door at Black Mesa, he wanted to please them, probably by giving them something they would like, and what would be better than the entire planet? So on some level, he is a chickens**t, but on some level, he also believes he's saving humanity from total annihilation.

I can't help but remember the scene with gordon and alyx running after him when he's talking to an advisor and he turns around and goes "Oh, SHIT!" hahaha

I'd run like hell too if there was a blood-covered maniac with a crowbar and a super powered gun that bends gravity chasing after me too, and yeah the "Oh shit" bit was awesome :D hope they explain the whole breen/advisor connection in episode 3 because I'm sure as hell tired of "episodes" taking so long to make =(
