This piece is mostly intended as an exercise in sarcastic/snarky humour, specifically in response to all the clichés I hear at this time every year about 'New Year - New Hope!'
I've always found it oddly ironic that optimism of new beginnings should occur right at the time, when we're heading into eight or more weeks of miserable cold, blowing snow and dirty slush. :P
Hence, I'm almost tempted to call this piece an anti-cliché. :P
